This world will teach you to HATE, BLACK GIRL
Welcome baby girl, welcome to the world
Welcome little girl, welcome to a learning world
Welcome black girl, welcome to a confusing world
Welcome black woman, welcome to a cruel and hateful world
As I welcome you into this world black girl, I will be as honest as an open book
I will not tell you the lies they told me.
I will not promise you the world because I may not be able to give you that
I will not promise you that this world will treat you fairly because that is beyond my control
I will not promise to always be there because truth is, I am not always going to be there
I will not promise to always be there to guide you
because I will love for you to one day find your own way
I will not promise to always be there to protect you because no amount of protection I provide,
will stop this world from doing its part
I will not promise to always be there to catch you when you fall because I want you to learn to fall but
find the strength to not stay down
I will not promise you a life without mistakes or failure because mistakes allow you to learn and grow
and failing doesn’t mean your journey has ended, failing gives you a clear path towards your vision
I will not promise you a world without hate because this WORLD will TEACH you how to hate
This world will teach you to hate the color of your skin
T his world will teach you to hate your height
This world will teach you to hate the color of your eyes
This world will teach you to hate the texture of your hair
This world will teach you to hate the
size and shape of your nose
This world will teach you to hate the size of your lips
This world will teach you to hate the size of your breast
This world will teach you to hate the size of your waist
This world will teach you to hate the size of your hips
This world will teach you to hate being a girl, a woman
You know, that tall girl you see on the cover of a magazine
the girl that is built like a “supermodel”
Or the one that is “average height”
the one with a little more curves than you
The one that is a little skinnier than you
lighter than you, more tanned than you, darker than you
with larger breast than you, with smaller breast than you
with more or less “junk in the trunk” than you
perhaps is the girl with good morals, values, beliefs
Or the one with a powerful voice of her OWN
Or the dependent woman, the independent woman, the strong
intelligent and confident woman
The successful career woman
This world will teach you to hate
But above all black girl this world will teach you to HATE YOURSELF
The world will teach you to hate all of you
So as honest as an open book, I tell you once again black girl, I will not promise to give you the world
or promise you a world without hate but I can promise you love, not just any kind of love but
UNCONDITIONAL love, AGAPE LOVE, you know that UNSELFISH and GENUINE kind of love.
I WILL TEACH you what this world has taught me
teach you the lessons I was taught and that is
to walk by faith and not by sight
With flaws and all, I will teach you to love YOURSELF
Because some white men, indian men, chinese men, asian men and even the BROTHERS
Will be reluctant to give you that type of love
I will teach you to empower and uplift other girls and women
With flaws and all, I will teach you to compliment other girls and women
But with all that I teach you
What I want you to always remember is when the world teaches you to hate
Teach the world to love and when the world thinks it can write your story
or define who you are or how you should look
take that pencil away from the world, hold it firmly
and write your own story
write your definition of beauty in a way that pleases you
While writing, if the wording doesn’t fit or if you make a mistake
correct it and continue writing
because despite the color of your skin
the color of your eyes
the texture of your hair
the size and shape of your nose
the size of your breast
the size of your waist
the size of your waist
size of your hips and the sound of your voice
In you lies every girl and every woman
So from the inside out, Love every bit of that girl and every bit of that woman
And from the inside out define beauty your own way
in your own words, speak it, wear it eat it, breathe it, own it
live it and embrace it beautifully
I dedicated this to my two beautiful nieces, Kadija and Naomi. As you grow, find what is divine within you, love it and nurture it beautifully! Kadija and Naomi, BEAUTY IS YOU!
