DAMNED benediction….

Standing silently, leaning against the window…

She was looking at her child playing in the meadow…

She had a smile on her lips but eyes were full of tears.

Her happiness was fading away…giving way to her buried fears…

She remembered the day she was blessed with a girl child,

When her baby opened her eyes and looking at her she smiled…

But then…suddenly came the memory when her child was thought of as bane,

“Lets bury her” or “Throw her in the river” said people who were thought to be ‘sane’!!!

It was her courage that averted this inhumane slaughter…

She would not let anyone scathe her daughter.

The joy to hear ‘mamma’ in the cutest possible voice…

To watch her crawl, walk and tumble was a mode of rejoice.

Her tantrums on the first day at school…

Or her stubborn wails when she was pulled out of the swimming pool,

While she was strolling in the boulevard of nostalgia, still fresh in her mind…

Her little one came and embraced her from behind.

From the sweet memories of past, she was jolted into the grim present

Her joyous heart was slowly being afflicted by poisonous lament….

How unsafe has this world become for girls

It really doesn’t matter if they are covered in rags or adorned with pearls.

Every ethic of humanity these savages have shred…

From someone emanating life, she is turned into a walking dead.

Apprehensive is every mother of the present day…

Whenever her child leaves the home…for her safety she would pray…

Once thought of as the personification of Divinity,

Is now not safe with people of her own vicinity.

Futile is the effort of establishing any number of codes or laws…

Even today mothers are scared that their baby girl will fall prey to the barbaric claws.

How much ever we talk of women emancipation…

Nothings gonna work if we don’t change our contemplation…

If you call her equal…treat her like one…

She is not merely an attendant or a cook or just a toy for fun!

Treating her like a burden or thinking of her as some hex…

Is this what you call being fair to the fairer sex???
