Sweet Potato’s Genealogy Book
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over twenty-some years ago my mother and I started this long road to discovering who her birth family was. It wasn’t so that she could get ahold of them, although she would have loved to, but it was to fill in the empty spaces she felt that we had in our family.
Family history is one thing that helps mold who we are and who we become, even if it is only on a subconscious level.
We have family traditions passed down from one generation to another, and an idea of what direction we will go in our lives. All of this just on knowing who and where we came from.
It was just my mother and I as i was growing up.
Sometimes families just happen that way. I know that she loved me and she was the best mother that she knew how to be, despite the fact she didn’t have her own parents to show her how. This is something that is instinctual usually, and as we found out early on is that our family line believed in “bigger is better” so we have plenty of that in our dna’s.
What a tangled web it has been, from adopted children in almost every generation to fathers not being in the home. I am not saying anything against any man that has found himself seperated from their children. Every life has something that they must go through to make them stronger, to build on that family history. Sometimes to it isn’t always fair.
I wish I had known ALL of my biological family but just knowing who they were and a little about what kind of perrson they were somehow makes me feel a little better. I just wish my mother was here to see what all we have gotten accomplished her and I. 🙂
