Life Lessons From a River

My family used to go down to the river when I was young,

I would splash and play

and waste the day away.

Little did I know that later in life that the river would teach me how to live.

It would teach me things I wouldn’t even realize,

like that you just have to keep moving forward.

You will hit slow and fast parts in your life.

One day you’ll be in your princess dress dancing around your kitchen and the next you’ll be dancing in your prom dress.

The slow parts will feel like forever, especially when the water is cold.

Just like when heartbreak strikes and days feel longer with more complaining than smiles.

The shore is there for when you need to take a break.

When you need time for yourself to dump out the water in your boat

and get rid of all the extra stuff that is dragging you down.

Just as the river has people come and go

so will you.

When people skip a pebble across you and it leaves ripples,

don’t you worry because they will soon fade away.

When growing up you will have rocks and branches that make your ride bumpy,

but you’ll begin to make the bad things into good.

All you have to do is find that rock that you can jump off of

and let your worries sink while your positivity floats.

Laugh as loud as the rapids,

follow a bend for new adventures,

and always remember you are strong enough to carve your own path.
